Whitstable Volunteer Car Service
The car service is run by Whitstable Volunteer Centre, and manned by volunteers who give their time freely Monday to Friday 10:00 - 12:30. The service is for people who find it difficult to use public transport either through age or disability. It is aimed at helping get to essential appointments such as health centres, hospitals, dentists, chiropodists, day centres etc. Where resources permit, shopping and social trips may be possible. We offer a return journey and you will not be charged for waiting time, which is up to a maximum of 2 hours. If your appointment lasts longer than this, e.g. taking you in the morning and collecting in the afternoon, there will be a double charge. To use the scheme, you must become a member, which costs £10 per year (or £15 for a couple.) When you book a journey, there will be a £2 administration charge + 45p per mile (minimum charge £6.50) When joining, we will ask you for information which will allow us to provide the service you need, e.g. if you are a wheelchair user we will find you a driver with a larger car.
